AI summaries

When learning to use a new product, the amount of technical detail you need to know can be overwhelming. It can be hard to identify where to start and what documentation is relevant to your goals. To ease this friction, the documentation for Imply Lumi contains a summary at the top of each doc.

Purpose

The goal is for you to understand the topic's value before reading the full content. That way, you can determine if the doc contains information you need and get a preview of what to expect. It's similar to asking a large language model (LLM), "Can you summarize this content and tell me why it's relevant?"

The summaries are intended to be concise and informative, directed towards a general audience without assuming technical depth from the reader. You should be able to grasp the main purpose of the doc, key information, and when you might use it.

Technical implementation

We generate the summaries using an LLM as part of the docs build process. Before we publish the content, a technical writer reviews each summary for accuracy and coherence. After an update to an existing topic, the build process regenerates the summary to reflect the entirety of the doc.
